Terms of Service

#StartupLokal is a community of founders, operators and investors that has been running meetups in Jabodetabek since 2010. These terms cover the website at startuplokal.community, the account you create on it, and the events you register for through it. Registering an account or booking a place means you accept them.

Please read section 4 in particular. It explains that when you register for an event, your contact details are shared with that event's sponsors.

1. Who you are agreeing with

The site and the community are operated by PT Startuplokal ("#StartupLokal", "we", "us"), a limited liability company incorporated in Indonesia under business registration number (NIB) 8120214201198 and tax number (NPWP) 0313693574071000, with its registered office at:

2. Who may use the site

You need to be at least 17 years old to create an account. The site is built for working professionals and is not directed at children; if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 17 we will close it and delete the data.

You may hold one account. Keep the password to it to yourself — anything done from your account is treated as done by you until you tell us otherwise, and you should tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think someone else has got in.

The details you give us should be true and yours. This matters more here than on most sites: your name, email and phone number are given to event sponsors, and a fictional set of them wastes a sponsor's time and takes a seat from someone who wanted it.

3. Your account and your profile

You can sign in with Google, with an email and password, or with a link sent to your email. Whichever you choose, you must confirm your email address before you can register for an event.

Your profile holds your name, photograph, short bio, city, postcode, LinkedIn address, company and job title. Everything except your name is optional. You can edit or remove any of it at any time from your settings, and delete the whole account from the same page — section 10 explains what that does.

We may suspend or close an account that is used to harass other members, to scrape the directory, to send unsolicited commercial messages to people met through our events, or to break these terms in some other material way. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why first and give you a chance to put it right.

4. Events, registration, and what sponsors receive

Most of our meetups are free. Some are ticketed, and a few are run by partner organisations, in which case registration happens on their site under their terms rather than ours.

Our events are put on with the help of sponsors — companies who provide the venue, the food, the prizes or the money that makes a free meetup possible. In return, sponsors receive the attendee list.

When you register for an event, you are agreeing that we may give that event's sponsors:

• your name;
• your email address;
• your phone number;
• your company and job title, if you have filled them in;
• your LinkedIn profile address, if you have filled it in; and
• your answers to any additional questions asked on that event's registration form.

Sponsors may add their own questions to the registration form. Where they have, the form says which sponsor is asking. You can see every question before you agree to anything, and you are free not to register.

This is not optional, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it: you cannot register for an event without agreeing to it. If you would prefer your details not to go to a sponsor, please do not register — you are still welcome to read the write-ups, watch the talks, and come to a future meetup that is not sponsored.

Once a sponsor has your details, they hold them as an independent controller under their own privacy policy. We ask sponsors to use the list only to follow up about their own products and events, but we cannot recall data already sent and we cannot unsubscribe you on their behalf. Section 7 of our Privacy Policy explains this and what to do about it.

Registering does not guarantee a seat where a venue has a capacity limit and the event fills up, and it is not transferable. Please cancel from your dashboard if your plans change — it frees the place for someone else.

We may change the time, the venue, the speakers or the programme of an event, and occasionally we have to cancel one. We will tell registered attendees as soon as we know.

5. Paid tickets

Where an event is ticketed, payment is taken by Midtrans, our payment processor. We do not see or store your card details.

Unless the listing says otherwise, tickets are refundable up to seven days before the event. If we cancel an event, or move it to a date you cannot make, you get a full refund. No-shows are not refunded.

6. What you post

Members can contribute photographs, articles and videos. You keep ownership of everything you contribute. By posting it you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, show it on the site and its social accounts, and include it in write-ups of the event it came from. You can withdraw material you posted by deleting it, which stops future use; it does not reach copies already published elsewhere or printed.

Only post material that is yours to post, and do not post anything unlawful, misleading, defamatory, or that identifies someone in a way they would object to. We can remove anything, and we do not pre-moderate.

Photographs are taken at our meetups and published afterwards. If you appear in one and would rather not, write to [email protected] and we will take it down.

7. Conduct

Our meetups run on the assumption that everyone in the room is there in good faith. Harassment, discrimination, aggressive pitching and recording people without their agreement are not acceptable, at the event or in the channels around it. Organisers may ask someone to leave.

The community is not a lead list. Meeting someone at a meetup is not permission to add them to a mailing list.

8. The site itself

We provide the site as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change or withdraw features.

Information published here — event write-ups, talks, the startup directory — is for general interest. It is not investment, legal, tax or business advice, and you should not treat it as such. The directory and partner listings are provided by the organisations themselves; we do not verify or endorse them.

Links to other sites are for convenience. What happens on them is between you and them.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Indonesian law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, business or opportunities, or for what a sponsor, a partner or another member does with information you chose to share. Our total liability to you for anything arising out of the site or an event is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or IDR 1,000,000 if you paid us nothing.

10. Ending it

You may close your account at any time from your settings. Doing so removes your name, photograph, contact details and profile from the site and stops all messages from us.

Two things survive, and we would rather be straightforward about why. Your attendance record stays, with your identity removed, because it is part of the history of the events themselves. And the record that you consented to a particular sharing, with its date, stays as well — it is the evidence that the details already given to a sponsor were given with permission, and deleting it would leave both of us worse off.

Details already passed to a sponsor stay with that sponsor. Ask them directly; section 7 of the Privacy Policy explains how.

We may close an account under section 3, or stop operating the site altogether, in which case we will give reasonable notice.

11. Changes to these terms

We will update these terms from time to time. The version and date at the top of this page tell you which edition is current, and the history of every change is public in the repository the site is built from.

When something material changes, the next time you register for an event you will be asked to agree again — that is what the checkbox on the booking form records. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the current version.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. If we cannot resolve a dispute between us by talking about it, it goes to the Central Jakarta District Court (Pengadilan Negeri Jakarta Pusat), which is the court with jurisdiction over our registered office.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
